In 2022, we collaborated with affordable housing providers in Edmonton to improve the energy efficiency of their housing stock. Our goal was to 1) demonstrate the business, environmental and social case to lower the carbon footprint of affordable housing while increasing affordability and extending property life; and 2) engage property owners in the social housing community to explore new models to finance energy-efficient upgrades. We created four case studies of affordable housing buildings in Edmonton and convened the social housing sector in Alberta to explore acceptable models to finance the necessary energy efficient upgrades.
